Maintaining your Hawk fork proper lubrication and front fork suspension performance of the fork is crucial for a smooth riding experience. Over time, the suspension oil inside the fork may become cloudy and contaminated, thereby reducing performance. Regularly replacing the fork oil not only extends the fork's usable life but also ensures the suspension system remains in optimal condition.
Fork Oil Volume Specifications
The following are the standard oil volumes for RFloXa forks:
750L – 203mm Travel Fork:
Left leg (spring side): 100 ml
Right leg (damping side): 300 ml
800 – 228mm Travel Fork:
Left leg (spring side): 150 ml
Right leg (damping side): 350 ml
Which Fork Oil Should You Use?
We default to 5W fork oil, which is suitable for most riders and riding conditions.
If you find the rebound speed too fast for your liking, you may choose 7.5W, 10W, or even thicker fork oil for better control.
Why change the damping oil?
After prolonged riding or frequent off-road use, the damping oil will gradually become contaminated, resulting in:
- Weakened rebound or compression damping
- Abnormal noise or poor feel
- Inconsistent fork tube response
When Should You Replace Fork Oil?
Normal Riding: Every 6–12 months
Aggressive Off-Road or Racing: Every 3–6 months
How to Replace Fork Oil?
Please refer to our step-by-step guide on YouTube. The procedure is the same for both sides.
How to Replace Fork Oil?
Please refer to our step-by-step guide on YouTube. The procedure is the same for both sides. Whenever you change the fork oil, it’s highly recommended to replace the fork seal kit at the same time.
Notes:
Early RFloXa forks used grease on the spring side. Over time, the grease will harden and reduce performance. We switched to damping oil on both sides for easier maintenance at the staring of this year.
If you own an early version fork and wish to replace the grease to oil, please follow these steps:
- Remove the spring and clean off all grease.
- Add the correct amount of damping oil based on your fork’s travel.
